Our Services
Our main focus is the treatment and care of NHS patients with a wide range of eye problems, from common complaints to rare conditions that require treatment not available elsewhere in Scotland.
The clinicians have expertise in a number ophthalmic sub-specialties as follows:
Acute Referral Clinic
For urgent sight-threatening problems. This is an important area of the hospital, often the first point of contact for many patients. Specially trained nurse practitioners run the department in conjunction with medical staff.
Please note: The Eye Pavilion does not have a "walk-in" clinic. The Acute Referral Clinic is a referral only clinic, i.e. you must have a letter from your GP requesting urgent treatment.

Adnexal/Oculoplastics
For treatment of the anatomical parts around or attached to the eyeball, such as the eyelids, extraocular muscles, and also the eye socket (orbit) and tear glands.
Cataract
A common eye condition, in which the lens becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision. Patients undergo out-patient assessment for this to allow them to attend for their operation as a daycase.
External Disease
For conditions relating to the outside of the eyeball, including the cornea, iris and sclera (the tough white outer layer of the eye) with new treatments for keratoconus (mis-shapen cornea) and transplantation of the layers of, or the whole cornea.
General Ophthalmology
For general eye problems and those that might need referral to one of our specialist services.
Glaucoma
Increased pressure within the eyeball, which can cause gradual loss of sight if left untreated. We are now a specialist referral centre for a special type of Glaucoma surgery involving tubes placed in the front part of the eye in very severe cases.
LOTT

Medical Retina

Neuro-Ophthalmology & Strabismus (Squints)
Eye diseases that relate to problems with the brain and the muscles that move the eyes. Our consultant specialist works closely with colleagues in the Department of Neurosciences at the Western General Hospital.
Ocular Oncology
